Wordpress 2.9
Wordpress 2.9, with a host of improvements and upgrades, has just arrived, what a cool Christmas present, “Thanks guys!”.
Check out some of the new features that have been added in the Wordpress 2.9 upgrade.
- Global undo/”trash” feature, in simple terms this means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can easily bring it back (i.e., the Trash). Which also eliminates those annoying “you sure you want to do that?” messages that used to pop up on every delete.
- Built-in image editor, This is going to save loads of time, allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images, so your in control. This is just the first application of many planned media-handling improvements coming soon.
- Batch plugin update and compatibility checking, this means you can update 10 plugins at a time, versus having to do several clicks for each one, and there is also new compatibility data from the plugins directory to give you a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress. This should take a lot of the worry and effort out of upgrading.
- Easier video embeds that allow you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it automatically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (and I hear there is still more in the next release).

Provides the most comfortable ride yet, because there have been a number of improvements under the hood and more subtle improvements you’ll begin to appreciate once you’ve clocked a few miles.
If you are involved in online marketing and you are not using a Wordpress Theme then your getting absolutely creamed by all of your competition that is!
We use the Thesis Theme because it is really robust and is tailor made for SEO
Wordpress is simple to install and it doesnt take a lot of work to get it tuned up and running smoothly.

Then go and add your Ping List, this will really help drive website traffic, and after you have installed your ping list go and install some of these Web Site Traffic plugins.
Heres some more info, some of it is technical stuff. I have pretty much copied and pasted this directly from the Wordpress 2.9 site apart from a few minor alterations.
- They have incorporated
rel=canonicalsupport for better SEO. - There is automatic database optimization support, which you can enable in your
wp-config.phpfile by addingdefine('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);. - Themes can register “post thumbnails” enabling them to attach an image to the post, this is markedly useful for magazine-style themes.
- There’s also a new
commentmetatable that allows arbitrary key/value pairs to be attached to comments, just like posts, allowing greater expansion of what is possible in the comment framework. - Custom post types have been upgraded with better API support so you can juggle more types than just post, page, and attachment. (And they are planning more of this Wordpress 3.0.)
- It’s now possible to set custom theme directories, so a plugin can register a theme to be bundled with it or you can have multiple shared theme directories on your server. “Thats cool”
- They have upgraded TinyMCE WYSIWYG editing and Simplepie. hmmm Im going to have to look this up”
- Sidebars can now have descriptions so it’s more obvious what and where they are and what they do.
- Specify category templates not just by ID, like before, but by slug, this will make it simpler for theme developers to do customize things with categories — such as post types!
- Registration and profiles now has extensibility allow you to collect things more easily, like a user’s Twitter account and any other fields you can imagine.
- The XML-RPC API has been extended to allow changing the user registration option. They repaired some Atom API attachment issues.
- Create custom galleries with the new include and exclude attributes that allow you to pull attachments from any post, not just the current one. “That’s handy!”
- When you’re editing files in the theme and plugin editors it remembers your location and takes you back to that line after you save. (Thank goodness!!!)
- The Press This bookmarklet has been improved and is faster than ever; give it a try for on-the-fly blogging from wherever you are on the internet.
- Custom taxonomies are now included in the WXR export file and imported correctly.
- Better hooks and filters for excerpts, smilies, HTTP requests, user profiles, author links, taxonomies, SSL support, tag clouds, query_posts and WP_Query
All in all Wordpress 2.9 has made things much easier and a lot more user friendly, these new upgrades are going to save loads of time and remove a lot of the effort out of a normal day’s work.
