I guess the best place to start would be to discuss the difference between MLM “Multi Level Marketing” and Affiliate Marketing. “This is going to be an in a nutshell explanation”
MLM “Multi Level Marketing” Means that you would you buy into a company that sells a product that has real world value this could be an information product a service or even some kind of useful home appliance. Once you have chosen your company and product you go out and start marketing. Let’s say you make a sale to Bob. You receive a commission for that sale. Then Bob makes a sale to Rob you also receive a commission for that sale. Rob makes a sale to John and you make a commission on that sale as well. It depends on the company but these commissions can go anywhere between 3 – 10 levels deep, some may go deeper and the commission percentage varies through different levels and different companies. That’s a very basic explanation.
Affiliate Marketing:
In most cases, marketing affiliate programs will mean you only get paid one commission for each sale generated. However there are exceptions, some affiliate programs pay a 2 tier level. This means that you will receive a commission from a second level. But as we all know a very high percentage of online marketers fail to make any money the industry rule of thumb is about 97% so you are not likely to make much money at all from your second level. Which brings us back to MLM for a minute, this same 97% rule of thumb estimate is one of the reasons it can be difficult to succeed with MLM.
That’s not to say that marketing affiliate products is any different because there are always the affiliate jumpers. These are the people that buy into affiliate programs thinking they can make money easily and when they fail to make a sale with that product they call it useless and jump onto the next affiliate program that looks good and when they find it difficult to make a sale with that product they jump on to the next. They are failing to realize one critical factor that will turn things around for them very quickly.
Marketing affiliate programs and MLM opportunities for that matter is all about traffic not just any old traffic, targeted free traffic is the best way to generate sales and not have to worry about paying out for advertising.
How many free targeted visitors are you getting to your website every day? 10 – 20, maybe 50?
50 a day may bring you a small income but you are never going to be in a position to go full time marketing with numbers like that. You need bigger numbers of targeted visitors than that.
